Public Drug Coverage

In Canada, each province is responsible for deciding which psoriasis medications to include on their publicly-funded drug formulary – the list of drugs covered by public insurance. Typically, decisions to include a new product on the drug formulary are made by considering factors such as clinical evidence, cost effectiveness and value compared to existing alternate therapies.

As a patient, if a medication you are prescribed is not covered, you can take action and advocate for coverage.

Know your public health insurance coverage. Some provinces only provide drug coverage for people who are 65 and older or on social assistance, but others have different coverage plans. You can find out more about the approval process on your provincial government web site or visit www.drugcoverage.ca.
