Most often psoriasis can be diagnosed just by looking at it. However, If necessary, your doctor may biopsy a small sample of your skin to confirm psoriasis and rule out other diseases, such as the skin condition eczema, a form of cancer called cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, drug reactions and a bone disorder known as Paget’s disease.
If your attack of psoriasis was triggered by a sore throat, a swab may be taken from the throat to see if bacteria are present. If so, you will likely be prescribed an antibiotic.
If you also have painful joints, your doctor will likely order a blood test for rheumatoid arthritis.
